Overview:

SourceBridge Co. is seeking highly skilled Audio and Music Transcription Experts for a fully remote contractor opportunity supporting an AI training project focused on polyphonic audio analysis, SATB transcription, music notation, and Python.

 

The role involves reconstructing precise musical scores from mixed audio recordings. A representative task may require separating simultaneous soprano, alto, tenor, and bass (SATB) lines from a mono recording and converting the complete performance into an accurate MusicXML score.

 

This is not a general audio-production or speech-transcription role. Strong musical listening, notation, ear-training, and technical problem-solving abilities are essential.

 

 

Responsibilities:

• Transcribe polyphonic musical recordings into structured musical notation.
• Distinguish soprano, alto, tenor, and bass lines from mono or mixed recordings.
• Identify pitches, onsets, durations, rests, and re-articulations.
• Quantize musical events to the correct rhythmic grid.
• Apply accurate key signatures, accidentals, and enharmonic spelling.
• Generate, edit, and manipulate MusicXML files.
• Use Python to inspect audio and analyze spectral information.
• Automate appropriate parts of the music transcription workflow.
• Validate transcriptions through musical review, structured checks, or resynthesis.
• Produce accurate and reproducible transcription results.

 

 

Requirements:

• Strong Python programming ability.
• Advanced ear training and polyphonic music-transcription skills.
• Strong understanding of harmony, rhythm, voice leading, and standard music notation.
• Experience with SATB music, choral arranging, score preparation, or closely related polyphonic transcription.
• Strong attention to musical and technical detail.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Approximately 15 hours per week of availability.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with one or more of the following tools is a plus:

• MusicXML
• librosa
• NumPy
• SciPy
• music21
• Essentia
• pretty_midi
• MuseScore
• Other audio-analysis or music-notation software

 

Formal education and specific years of professional experience are not strict requirements. Experienced performers, arrangers, composers, choir musicians, researchers, and independent transcription specialists are encouraged to apply if they can demonstrate relevant expertise.
