Overview:
SourceBridge Co. is seeking skilled Backend Engineers to contribute their server-side development expertise to an advanced AI evaluation project.
In this role, you’ll help create Reinforcement Learning Environments that test AI systems on real-world backend software engineering challenges, including debugging code, building APIs, improving data handling, and optimizing performance.
No prior AI experience is required. Your backend development skills and technical problem-solving ability are what matter.
You’ll work with realistic software engineering problems and create reproducible environments alongside reference solutions that can be used to evaluate AI performance.
Responsibilities:
- Create clear code samples, debugging approaches, and technical solutions using languages such as Python, Java, Go, Rust, C++, or TypeScript.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve backend bugs and data-handling issues.
- Diagnose performance bottlenecks and develop effective solutions.
- Build small to medium-sized backend features, including APIs and database functionality.
- Improve existing backend code and database queries for clarity, efficiency, and reliability.
- Create reproducible technical environments and reference solutions for backend challenges.
- Document your reasoning, development approach, and technical decisions.
- Review peer-contributed code and technical submissions for correctness, quality, and clarity.
Requirements:
- Hands-on backend development experience with at least one modern programming language.
- Strong understanding of backend development concepts and software engineering practices.
- Knowledge of API design and database systems.
- Familiarity with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work with unfamiliar codebases and understand existing systems quickly.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and reliable code.
- Strong technical communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ year of hands-on experience with one or more of:
- Python 3
- Java
- Go
- Rust
- C++
- TypeScript
- Solid understanding of core data structures and backend architecture.
- Experience designing or maintaining APIs.
- Experience optimizing database queries and backend performance.
- Comfortable troubleshooting complex issues across different codebases.
- Experience reviewing code or technical submissions.
- Interest in AI and emerging AI technologies is a plus, but previous AI experience is not required.
