Overview:

SourceBridge Co. is seeking highly skilled CAD and Mechanical Design Experts for a remote contractor opportunity supporting an AI training project involving technical drawings, computational geometry, programmatic CAD, and Python.

 

This role focuses on interpreting dimensioned engineering schematics and reproducing them as precise 3D solid models. Projects may involve creating mechanical components with complex curved geometry, generating models programmatically with Python, exporting STEP files, and validating models against strict geometric and physical requirements.

 

This is not a general hardware-support or electronics position. Candidates should have strong CAD, spatial reasoning, computational geometry, and technical problem-solving abilities.

 

 

Responsibilities:

• Interpret dimensions and geometric relationships from technical drawings and engineering schematics.
• Translate 2D technical drawings into accurate 3D mechanical models.
• Decompose complex mechanical components into appropriate geometric features.
• Model curved profiles, sweeps, lofts, fillets, chamfers, and Boolean operations.
• Use Python to generate, automate, or modify CAD geometry.
• Export valid, watertight solid models in formats such as STEP.
• Validate dimensions, topology, volume, surface area, and inertia properties.
• Diagnose subtle differences between expected and generated geometry.
• Troubleshoot CAD models and identify geometric or topology issues.
• Produce reproducible solutions that work reliably in clean technical environments.
• Apply precise spatial reasoning and engineering judgment to complex modeling tasks.

 

 

Requirements:

• Strong Python programming ability.
• Hands-on experience with 3D CAD or computational geometry.
• Ability to interpret dimensioned engineering drawings and schematics.
• Strong 3D spatial reasoning skills.
• Close attention to geometric precision and detail.
• Experience creating, validating, or troubleshooting CAD models.
• Ability to understand complex geometric relationships.
• Strong technical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Willingness to work approximately 15 hours per week on a flexible schedule.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with one or more of the following tools or technologies is beneficial:

• Build123d
• CadQuery
• FreeCAD
• OpenCascade
• Fusion 360
• Onshape
• SolidWorks
• Trimesh
• Other CAD, computational geometry, or programmatic modeling software

 

Formal education and a specific number of years of professional experience are not strict requirements.

 

Mechanical designers, CAD specialists, engineers, researchers, makers, and independent technical experts are encouraged to apply if they can demonstrate relevant skills.
